The quick recap: South Park lost internet connectivity. No one could figure out why because they could connect to the internet to find out. The country descends into chaos as it is revealed that most of the US is without internet. Eventually Stan’s family decides to head out west to “Califony” because they’ve heard that there might be “internets” out there.
Towards the end of the show it cuts to the president demanding that they “go to the internet” and figure out what’s wrong. They go to a mountain base and inside is a giant Linksys WiFi router…with a blinking orange light. The scientist try talking and reasoning with the router to no avail. Eventually one of the South Park kids shows up and suggests unplugging-then-plugging the router. It works like a charm.
Truly, I think we’ve all experienced this mini-drama before. We fall into despair as we face a life without internets….then we find salvation once we reboot our routers.
I think it may be sometime before I shake the mental image of the internet ultimately being a giant LinkSys router. It just goes to explain so much antidotal evidence about day to day internet life.
